The Amish are a Christian group in North America. The term refers primarily to the Old Order Amish Mennonite Church. The Old Order Amish are known for their rejection of most of the social change and technological innovation found in modern society.

Shunning means that the person will forever be considered an outsider -- a stranger -- and will not be allowed to participate in the community ever again.
