Question: Can teachers date their former students?

Can you date a past student?

While teachers are currently barred from intimate relationships with current students, NSW is the only state in the country which does not explicitly ban teachers from embarking on romantic relationships with former students even if they are of legal age.

Why is teacher and student relationship illegal?

It is considered a forbidden act for teachers to fall for their students. As teachers, they stand in loco parentis as regards their minor wards. It is therefore unthinkable for a teacher, who under the law is a substitute parent, to have amorous feelings towards his or her minor student.
