Question: Has anyone ever had a baby with Down syndrome?

Women with Down syndrome are able to have children, but many men with the condition unfortunately are not able to, however it is possible. Women who have Down syndrome are able to have children; they have a 35-50% chance that their baby will have Down syndrome.

Can two normal people have a Down syndrome baby?

Any couple can have a baby with Downs syndrome, but it is well known that older women are more likely to have a baby with the condition than younger women.

Can Down syndrome be missed?

About eight or nine out of 10 cases of Down syndrome are detected (classified as screen positive). This means that one or two out of 10 pregnancies with Down syndrome are missed (classified as screen negative).

How late can Down syndrome be detected?

Its usually done between the 10th and 13th week of pregnancy. Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS), which takes a blood sample from the umbilical cord. PUBS gives the most accurate diagnosis of Down syndrome during pregnancy, but it cant be done until late in pregnancy, between the 18th and 22nd week.

Do Down syndrome babies cry a lot?

Children with Down syndrome are children, above all else. As babies they cry and sleep, and as they grow they walk and talk. If youre caring for a child with Down syndrome, you might face some challenges different to other parents.
