Question: Why is Couchsurfing failing?

They couldnt profit off of our work, all around the world, because money was never a motivation. In 1 ½ years, Couchsurfing failed to monetize the site, leading to Espinozas resignation and the uncertainty the site finds itself in today.

What happened to couchsurfing?

Many of us have seen this coming, but after nearly two decades of helping people travel the world for free, its official. Couchsurfing is no longer free. Over the last few years there have been many “incidents” between Couchsurfing HQ and the community, and “Couchsurfing is dead” was chanted by many longtime members.

What replaced couchsurfing?

The best alternative is Airbnb, which is free. Other great apps like Couchsurfing are BeWelcome (Free, Open Source), Trustroots (Free, Open Source), Couchers.org (Free, Open Source) and Paired (Free).
